In a sense, we’ve always had a Space Force -- we just didn’t call it that. What is known today as the United States Space Force is actually a renamed branch of the Air Force. The National Defense Authorization Act for 2020 redesignated Air Force Space Command as the U.S. Space Force, and established it as an independent branch of the U.S. Armed Forces on December 20, 2019.
The United States Space Force is a highly unique branch of the American military, which promotes the American ideals of peace, technological innovation and advancement of knowledge. It is committed to protecting American interests in space, deterring aggression in a post-Cold War world, and conducting peaceful space explorations.
