Course Title: Mastering Daily Navigation Training

Course Duration: 90 Minutes

Who is the course for?

Any officer in charge of the navigational watch.

 

Is previous experience required?

Basic nautical knowledge including an understanding of terrestrial and electronic navigation as well as practical experience on board are recommended.

 

How will the course benefit me?

By combining essential aspects that every officer of the watch should know, with practical onboard scenarios, enabling you to identify dangerous areas which should be avoided, as well as to ensuring best practices on how to indicate and avoid them.

 

How will the course benefit my company?

By refreshing necessary knowledge to ensure safe navigation and giving every officer the ability to identify and judge navigational situations accurately.

 

What standards are referenced in the course?

This course does not refer to specific legislation or standards.

 

Is there an assessment?

Once you have completed the course, you will be asked a series of questions to check your knowledge and understanding. These are based on the learning objectives for the course and have a pass mark of 70%.

 

Learning Objectives

 

• Explain the mathematical basics that are used in daily navigational tasks

• Describe the coordinate system and its practical application in position calculations

• List the possibilities and limitations of ECDIS to improve the situational awareness

 

Assessment

 

Exam as part of the course, two attempts.

 

System Requirements

 

• Internet access - users will need a device with a web browser and internet connection

 

• System - runs on computers, tablets and mobile devices using Windows 7 and above and MAC OS devices running IOS 11 and above

 

• Browsers - Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Safari

 

• Minimum browser size - none

 

• Audio - requires device speaker or headphones
